The octopus without a shadow of a doubt looks like a creature you could only
imagine in your worst nightmares. But don’t let this alien looking creature
fool you; although they look completely foreign to us their intelligence level
is on par with Albert Einstein’s. Ok well maybe that is stretching it a little
far, but they are the smartest of all invertebrates. I mean we all watched the
2010 World cup with amazement as the great Paul the octopus chose the correct
team in all seven of Germany’s matches. Not the most scientific of tests to
prove to you how smart they are and I’m not saying to rely on an octopus to get
you out off a gambling debt but they are consistently shocking scientist with
their intelligence. The octopus is a very sneaky and sly creature in my
opinion, I mean how can you trust anything with 4 pairs of arms, their
camouflage is among the best of any creature. The body of the octopus is
basically made up of thousands of tiny balloons which they can independently
inflate and deflate to change their colour and even their texture at the drop
of a hat.
Octopus have a beak that is very powerful in the centre of their body not
unlike that of a birds beak, which they use to chomp down on crabs.
The suction cups that cover the arms on an octopus are super cool, not only are
they used to get the best possible grip on almost any surface, but they can
taste as well, yes that’s right I said taste imagine having hundreds of little
mouths on the soles of your feet, pretty disgusting if you ask me, but this
talent does serve value for the octopus, some species spend most of their life in deep dark places where theirgreat eye sight serves little to no purpose, so they use their suction cups to taste what they crawl over to determine if it is edible or not. The octopus
amazingly has three hearts which is three more than I can say about any of my ex-girlfriends.
As awesome as the octopus is it does have one huge down fall and that is how it
reproduces. As smart as this creature is it can’t seem to stay alive for long
after it gets to home base with its partner. The male usually dying a few
months after it mates and the female not surviving long after she lays the eggs.
